A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS
Clear on what it does.
And what it leaves alone.
Yes. WordDate lets you set the Created property inside a .doc or .docx document and the Created date shown in Finder. Drop in your file, choose a date, preview the changes and save a copy or update the original.
Yes. You can change Word’s Modified / Last Saved property and the file’s Modified date in Finder. These are separate properties, and WordDate shows both. Saving the document in Word again may update its dates.
Yes. WordDate updates Created, Modified / Last Saved and Last Printed properties in .xlsx, .xlsm and Excel 97–2003 .xls workbooks, plus Finder’s file dates. It preserves worksheet data, formulas and formatting. Macros in unsigned macro-enabled files are retained without being executed.
Finder’s Created and Modified dates, Word and Excel’s Created, Modified / Last Saved and Last Printed properties, and PDF creation and modification dates, including XMP metadata. You can also choose to update extra named date properties.
No. WordDate changes the properties stored with the file. Dates typed into a paragraph, contract, table or spreadsheet cell stay exactly as they are. Excel cell values, formulas and formatting are preserved.
Document processing happens locally on your Mac. Your documents are not uploaded. Software-update checks use an internet connection without sending your document contents.
Yes. Save separate copies, update the originals, or do both. WordDate defaults to saving a copy. It also checks that the source has not changed since you added it.
The current preview build is for Apple silicon Macs running macOS 14 Sonoma or later. WordDate supports .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .xlsm and .pdf files up to 256 MB each. Legacy Excel support is for Excel 97–2003 workbooks. Digitally signed and encrypted documents are not supported.
No. Changing date properties does not prove a document has never been edited. Comments, tracked changes and other history are outside the date-editing task. Word, Excel or a PDF editor may change the dates again the next time it saves.
